What’s New in the Department
We have been increasing our efforts to offer additional cultural and film studies courses in addition to encouraging increased participation in study abroad programs offered by our faculty. We are actively pursuing outreach to the community through annual events such as the Palouse French Film Festival, Bollywood Film Festival, and WSU Foreign Language Day which specifically targets the recruitment of area high school students who are currently studying a foreign language.
In addition, our course offerings have expanded to include a French Minor in conjunction with the Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles, Culture of France Through its Wines course, Spanish for the Health Professions, Spanish for Veterinarians, Spanish for Law Enforcement, and Spanish taught through WSU Extension. We believe in continual redesign of our curriculum to better meet the ever changing needs of our students. Donations to Foreign Languages are an essential part of our resources in a time of shrinking state support for public higher education. Your generosity, however large or small, is deeply appreciated and helps us to attract and support the brightest students to our program while providing the most impactful learning experiences. Specifically, we have identified two general funds described below:
This fund provides much needed support to department and student programs and activities, growth opportunities, outreach events and programs, faculty and student travel, and participation in professional conferences.
This fund supports our undergraduate and graduate students through awards and scholarships.
